Faith is a living, bold trust in God's grace, so certain of God's favor that it would risk death a thousand times trusting in it. Such confidence and knowledge of God's grace makes you happy, joyful and bold in your relationship to God and all creatures. The Holy Spirit makes this happen through faith. Because of it, you freely, willingly and joyfully do good to everyone, serve everyone, suffer all kinds of things, love and praise the God who has shown you such grace. - Martin Luther

Wednesday in Holy Week - Prayer

A Prayer for Holy Week, from Real Prayers by Wendell Frerichs

Lord, is your door open? Can we come in? Do you have some time to listen? We have some things to talk about. Troublesome things. Difficult issues. This time of year is somber, especially this week. How would you like us to enter into your sufferings? We don't want to make them worse, and we probably could. Do you have flashbacks? We do. It's hard to forget the times we've hurt you, disappointed you, denied you. And yet you're still our friend, the friend who gave your life for us. Do you want us to dwell on that? Is that a healthy way for us to live? To be preoccupied with your pain, your blood, your death? Lord, you know how we'd much rather dwell on Easter. Help us to get through this week and to meet you outside the tomb. Amen
