Deer Pants

This text is from an email we received in the CtK office today - a mom in the congregation shared this conversation with her son (names removed to protect the innocent...) I just have to share my son's question he asked me on the way home from worship last Sunday: We were in the car, almost home, and he asked, "What are deer pants?" I looked out the window, saw nothing (I'm not sure what I expected to see), and said, "WHAT?" "Deer pants. What are they?" "I have no idea. Where did you hear about them?" "In church today." "Ok. WHAT????" He grabbed the bulletin and read directly from the final communion hymn... "As the deer pants..." Isn't that great! He was picturing some sort of outerwear for deer! I wonder what other nuggets of humor and wisdom the children of the congregation could share with us?

Technically, I'm supposed to be working on Sunday's sermon at the moment. Of course that requires the occasional check of my email... maybe a colleague has had a breakthrough... :)
I subscribe to a "lectionary comic" called Agnus Day, and each week I get an email with a funny take on something from the Gospel reading for the coming Sunday. The comic strips don't always help with the sermon prep, especially during those weeks when I'm planning to preach on another lesson (from 2 Cor this week). But still, I usually enjoy them. I hope you enjoy it this week, too.

And a funny...

Easter is a time of joy and hope - and in some traditions it is also a time for great humor - playing on the theme that Jesus' death is the greatest joke pulled on the devil, ever. Death thought that death had won. And... not so much.

This story makes me glad - it's goofy and whimsical, and I for one think we could have a little more whimsy in church, most of the time. Enjoy!
