Faith is a living, bold trust in God's grace, so certain of God's favor that it would risk death a thousand times trusting in it. Such confidence and knowledge of God's grace makes you happy, joyful and bold in your relationship to God and all creatures. The Holy Spirit makes this happen through faith. Because of it, you freely, willingly and joyfully do good to everyone, serve everyone, suffer all kinds of things, love and praise the God who has shown you such grace. - Martin Luther

Blessed Pentecost!

Tomorrow we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the community of Jesus' disciples. If you'd like to get into the spirit of the celebration (yes, it's a bad pun), wear RED or other "fire colors" to worship. We gather at 10:00am! (Sunday School is over for the season...)
Here's a reflection on the day from the facebook page of The Five Loaves:

As we reflect on the Pentecost account of that first coming of Holy Spirit upon the Apostles (Acts 2:1-11) we must...

Day of Pentecost

This Sunday we celebrate the Day of Pentecost - what many consider the "birthday" of the Christian Church. Many worshipers will wear red, or other colors of fire, calling to mind the "divided tongues, as of fire" that danced above the apostles' heads that day when they started telling the story of Jesus in a variety of languages (see Acts 2).
Additionally, this Sunday is the last day of "regular" Sunday School for this academic year, and we'll celebrate all that's been learned with a potluck BBQ and games after worship. Burgers, hot dogs and beverages will be provided. Participants are asked to bring something to share (last names beginning with A-E: salad or fruit; F-O: dessert; P-Z: chips). It's going to be fun!

The Day of Pentecost

This Sunday is the Day of Pentecost. To get ready, read Acts 2 and find your flame-colored attire (the liturgical color of the festival is red).

Holy Spirit, Lord divine,
Come, from heights of heav'n and shine,
Come with blessed radiance bright!
Come, O Father of the poor,
Come, whose treasured gifts endure,
Come, our heart's unfailing light!

Excerpt from Sequence, Twelfth Century, translated by Peter Scagnelli.

Party Time!

This Sunday we celebrate the Day of Pentecost - the coming of the Holy Spirit that made possible the spreading of the good news of Jesus' resurrection. The Day of Pentecost is often called the "birthday of the Church." And so we're going to have a party! Wear red, orange or yellow to worship (the "flame" colors of those tongues dancing on the apostles' heads). Bring a gift from the "Wish List" (below) to share with the rest of the congregation. Hear about CtK's upcoming capital campaign during a special congregational meeting at the end of worship. Bring a tasty dish to share for the potluck brunch after worship. It's going to be a great day, celebrating the 44th anniversary of the congregation and 6th anniversary of the "new" building!

Learn About Pentecost

Pentecost (which is May 23rd this year) is among the most potent and spritual Christian holy days, involving direct encounter with Holy Spirit, but it has lost some of its power in modernity as it has become overshadowed by its cousins, Easter and Christmas. To fully comprehend the potency of Pentecost and what it can mean in your life, one must first understand the meaning of Pentecost to the first century Jew. THIS Sunday, May 16th, at 12:30 p.m. at Resurrection Parish at 1725 South 11th Avenue in Bozeman, Rabbi Ed Stafman, an ordained Rabbi and scholar of first century Judaism, Christianity & Greco-Roman religion, will walk us through the religious understanding of Pentecost from the Hebrew Bible through the first century so that we might better understand the meaning of Pentecost in our own lives.

Pastor Grant and I will be teaching a new members' class this Sunday - but I encourage you to go and hear Rabbi Ed. It should be very interesting!
